ABOUT JUDGE TRENT BROWN
Judge Trent Brown has been on the Court of Appeals for 8 years. He was appointed and sworn in by Governor Nathan Deal as the 85th judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia on May 16, 2018. He currently serves as Chief Judge of the Court after a unanimous vote by his colleagues.
Judge Brown previously served as a Superior Court Judge within the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit of eight counties (Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Wilkinson) upon appointment by Governor Deal in 2012 and running unopposed in 2014 and 2018. Judge Brown also served as the State Court Judge of Putnam County having been appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2008 and maintaining the seat against opposition later that year until his appointment to the Superior Court.
Judge Brown received a degree in Economics from the University of Georgia at Athens in 1995 and a law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1999. After admission to the State Bar of Georgia later that year, he maintained a general law practice until his appointment to the Superior Court.
Judge Brown served by appointment of Governor Deal as one of three judges to serve on the Judicial Retirement System of Georgia Board of Trustees. He was also one of two superior court judges to serve on the Governor’s Court Reform Council. He and his wife, Jill, are graduates of Leadership Georgia Class of 2014. Judge Brown also served for several years as a member of the Governor’s Office of Consumer Protection Advisory Board having been appointed to that post by Governors Perdue and Deal. He is a member of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta.
Judge Brown spent his early years in Tifton before his family moved to Eatonton, Georgia where he later became an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Leadership Putnam. He further served his community as a member of the Executive Board of the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Putnam County Board of Registrar. Judge Brown was awarded the Robert S. Stubbs II Guardian of Ethics Award for 2018-2019 by the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties. He continues to live in Putnam County with his wife, Jill, a teacher, and their two children.
